A door handle or door knob uses a spring-loaded latch. When the handle is turned, the latch retracts by pulling on the spring and compressing it. Usually, the spring is extended in the resting state of the lock. A handle doesn’t turn when a door knob is locked, stopping a latch from retracting. When your door knob turns, but you can’t open the door. The problem is that the handle doesn’t interact with the spring in the latch properly. First, you should make your door open.

Fix Stuck Locks:

Remove the two handles or knobs from the door, including the spindle. Twist within the gap the spindle inserts into by using a flathead screwdriver. Check if it retracts the handles.

If the latch does retract, the two handles are not well fixed to the spindle. The connection needs to be dealt with. The handles, the spindle, or the pressure which keeps them together might be the problem. Replace the part which is damaged after checking them. If damage doesn’t occur, you need to ensure that the handles are well secured to the door in order to control the spindle.

If the latch doesn’t retract, the problem is with the housing of the latch. The problem might be the spring or other components. It’s difficult to know the problem with the small components for most people, and therefore it’s easier just to change the whole latch housing.

The door lock struck in the unlocked state

Your home will be vulnerable when your door lock is stuck in the open position. If your safety is old, check whether or not the bolt or internals have rusted into position. If the key doesn’t work in the cylinder, the key might be worn or damaged. Use a different key to see if the cylinder can be turned. If the cylinder is broken, you can’t use a key to lock your door lock.

The door might be misaligned, though the door can be locked when the door is ajar. The door can’t be locked when the door is closed.
